PURPOSE OF THE SUN FESTIVAL
The Cuzco nobility, were considered natural children of the Sun, and should correspond with sacrifices and offerings. On the other hand, if the corn crop was good, had to thank you and if it was bad, had to beg for the coming year be compensated with a good production.
In June (winter solstice), the sun was going away, the cold increased, at dawn the water froze, therefore, had to ask the Sun return, which at twilight it would not continue to advance north. Finally, it was necessary to attest to the god Inti, eternity and dedication of its children, with submission and respect.
Inti Raymi, contemporary version is made from June 24 1944 when the festivities were instituted in the city in memory of their ancient origin and cradle of the Inca Great Civilization.
ORGANIZATION
The City of Cusco, by Law No. 27,431, which declares the Inti Raymi and the National Cultural Heritage and Official Events and Home Ritual Ceremony of National Identity, holds the ownership of copyright for the Inti Raymi, with its power to authorize staging anywhere in the country or abroad.
As such, the Municipality through the Municipal Company of Celebration in Cusco, EMUFEC, Inti Raymi performed every 24 June. EMUFEC also promotes and manages an extensive program of activities taking place around the Inti Raymi during the months of May, June and July also organizes and coordinates throughout the year, all events contained in the Calendar of Festivals
ESCENIFICACÓN SITES
On June 24, the festival honoring the Sun God, is performed in the presence of Inka, the Willaq Uma High Priest of Tarpuntay of Wirapirikuq and Kallparikuy, like the nobles and representatives of the panaca, for which uses three historical settings and breathtaking natural
Qorikancha (golden circle): the main temple dedicated to the Sun in Cusco, where they say was the golden garden (here performed the first ritual of worship Apu Inti and Pacha Mama, where they were buried large offerings, which in 1972 found evidence are in the Museum of Garcilaso INC).
The Plaza Mayor (or Plaza Auqaypata former Warrior): In the time of the Incas, in the vast plaza full ceremony unfolded in much Ushnu (ceremonial platform).
Saqsaywaman (voice derives from the Quechua terms "saqsay" and "waman" which translated into Spanish means "falcon satiety"). It is located at 3.555 meters, one kilometer from the neighborhood of Qollqanpata inka. It was the Royal House of the Sun and the Temple dedicated to the Lightning, as Garcilaso takes place here since 1944 the central part of the Inti Raymi with impressive contemporary crowd
Day 1 - June 22
We’ll give you a welcome at Cusco’s airport by our transfer and transport to your hotel (Coca tea courtesy). In the afternoon you'll have the city tour until 6:30 p.m. This tour includes the visit to the Qoricancha (Temple of the Sun), the Cathedral of the Cusco, the famous and wondeful archeological complex of Sacsayhuaman, archeological sites of Q'enqo, Puca Pucara and Tambomachay
Day 2 - June 23
At 05:30 am we will make a MachuPicchu excursion by touristic train service which takes a full day. At 02.30 pm approximately, we wil take a lunch
Return at hotel in Cusco town.
Day 3 - June 24 Inti Raymi
Pick up from your hotel (8:30 a.m.), transfer to Qoricancha, where the Inti Raymi begins, tour guided during the Inti Raymi, box lunch, transfer to Sacsayhuaman and finally transfer to your hotel.
Day 4 - June 24
Breakfast, transfer by bus to the airport or bus station for your travel to your next destination or flight back home.
